Dear members and friends,

I am pleased to share with you our Background Paper for the 2026-27 Budget Priority Submission which was sent to the Tasmanian Government on Dec 7th.

For more than 40 years, A Fairer World has been developing and delivering innovative and evidence-based programs within Tasmanian Government schools. Our programs engage with students, teachers and other workers to support inclusion, social change and sustainability motivation.

Our programs are co-designed and co-delivered by storytellers, lived experience advocates from the Hobart human library.

Our human ‘books’ are our equity lens, they share stories across all aspects of discrimination, with vulnerability, openness, and resilience. They discuss practical tips and ways in which we can all be more inclusive; they speak to and connect with those who have been hurt, they create empathy in understanding and build motivation for action, and change.

Whilst we are aware of the state’s current funding constraints, we are also aware that our work is integral to the wellbeing of all Tasmanians.

The Independent Review of Education in Tasmania (2025) identified wellbeing, inclusion and belonging as critical enablers of educational success.

Our submission is to seek a continuation of funding to maintain and continue to broaden our reach, valuing empathy, diversity and community connection as critical enablers to improving both teaching and learning experiences.
We value add by contributing to our current funding agreement bringing in an additional $500K, from a grant with the Tasmanian Community Fund – piloting a project: Diversity Matters Everyone Matters, which builds further on our preventative wellbeing and inclusion work with young people.

A Fairer World is seeking continued investment of $567,947 over 3 years from the Tasmanian government to continue to develop and deliver innovative, evidence-based and trauma informed programs with Tasmanian Government schools.

Thank you to A Fairer World’s educational lead, Jodie Epper and her myriad of helpers and mentors who have driven this program with such purpose and passion.
