We had a heartfelt day with Sorell Council. Thanks. Lots of great conversation and food for thought. Here’s some of our thinking/ideas put to text.
INCLUSION: The Hobart Human Library once heard….
you can no longer unsee
growth is lonely before it becomes empowering
you’re allowed to put the heaviness down
protect the part of you that believes in people
Every time you teach, explain, hold space, model inclusion, or speak truth… someone’s worldview shifts, even slightly…Change often feels invisible until it suddenly isn’t.
How to stay grounded and connected while holding the awareness of inclusion:
(OR ways to stay whole while walking through a world that isn’t always paying attention).
Replace “Why don’t they see it?” with “How can I stay centred while they learn?”
People are at different stages of awareness.
Some are just starting.
Some will never be ready.
Your role is not to carry everyone — it’s to walk steadily so others have a path to follow.
Let gratitude sit beside anger — not replace it
You do not need to stop being upset with injustice in order to feel gratitude.
Both truths can live in you:
- I am heartbroken by inequity
- I am grateful for the beauty of community
That duality is emotional intelligence in action.
A reflection you might find grounding
Most people don’t notice the cracks in a system until someone with your kind of heart points them out simply by being awake.
Keep your love.
Keep your empathy.
Keep your gratitude.
They are not naïve — they are your strength.
And the world desperately needs people who can see clearly and remain kind.ld.org
