Diversity and Inclusion program designed for Tasmanian schools

Program Overview

The Just One… program is an 11-hour diversity and inclusion initiative tailored for Tasmanian schools. Locally designed, it leverages the power of storytelling from Tasmanians who have experienced exclusion and discrimination. These authentic stories are interwoven throughout the program, engaging students in hands-on activities and practical experiences that foster inclusion.

Students embark on a structured 4-step journey that strengthens human connections, builds essential skills, and motivates them to challenge exclusion and bullying behaviours. Through this process, participants develop diversity competence and become empowered agents of change in their schools and communities.

Just One… extends its impact beyond the student body, empowering teachers and the broader school community to develop essential skills in diversity and inclusion through targeted training. This comprehensive program equips educators with the tools and confidence to navigate the complexities of diversity, fostering a more inclusive and supportive learning environment. By inspiring a generation of inclusive changemakers—one step at a time—Just One… drives meaningful change within schools and beyond.

Program intent

Just One… A Ripple Effect of Positive Change

The transformative power of Just One lies in its ability to spark a ripple effect of positive change. By empowering just one student to adjust their behaviour or one school to embrace inclusive practices, the program ignites a chain reaction of meaningful transformation across communities.

The Just One program focuses on five key learning outcomes:

  • Understanding Diversity: Students recognise the value of diversity and appreciate the importance of differences.
  • Developing Empathy: Students cultivate empathy, learning to understand others’ feelings and perspectives.
  • Exploring Discrimination: Students explore the impact of discrimination and ways to address it.
  • Practising Inclusion: Students develop and apply inclusive behaviours in real-life settings.
  • Practising Advocacy: Students learn the power of individual action and practise skills to advocate for positive change.

The Just One… program is delivered face-to-face and is supported by additional resources on the Just One website: www.justone.org.au
