Filling in as acting CEO has been as equally engaging and forward focused, as it has been reflective and consolidating. We are a small team of dedicated and talented staff, eager volunteers, inspiring and courageous human ‘books’, and a passionate governance committee; over the last four months I have had many people approach me sharing their gratitude for the work we do. The impact of what we do in our community is heartfelt, valued and appreciated.

The current state of the world can be debilitating and paralysing at many levels, as we continue to see history repeat itself, before learning from past mistakes; YET the impact on the ground of our many educators, storytellers, leaders, activists, mothers, artists and youth creates ripples of change creating empathy, a big step to tolerance, understanding and a precursor for the action required to build inclusion.

It is the passion and dedication of ordinary people that holds A Fairer World steady, keeps us real and committed to our ongoing pursuit, in promoting justice and activating social change. Thank you for your work as we continue to share our vulnerabilities and increase our capacity to listen.

Our little team is growing; we welcome Zelah to the AFW office. Zelah will be inhouse on Mondays and Wednesdays. Come in for a cuppa to say hello.

Zelah will be working with our educational lead and Schools Program Manager Jodie Epper. Over the next few years, they will be making stories and creating eBooks with students across the state. Jodie and the team are heading to Queenstown in October, as first cab off the rank. And our Just One…training program will be rolled out in the New Norfolk region in early 2026, to create change, one step at a time.

We have much talent, skill, and play across our staff, volunteers and committee. Caitlin, our office guru has devised a fun ‘phone a friend’ booth activity for the Diversity Matters Everyone Matters program, the committee have lent a hand drawing birds, whilst multitasking at meetings, to template our new eBook production.

You may also see Donna in the office on a Wednesday, she will be joining us over the next 3 months preparing for our Community Educator Training Program (CETP), on how to become a human ‘book’, this course will be rolled out for free in December. If you know anyone who is keen to share their lived experience story of discrimination, as a platform for change, please get them to contact us at [email protected]

A review earlier this year of our audited statement sent us on a journey scrutinising our position as a professional, impactful and successful NGO. As a result, we have a new audited statement, this can be found in our 2024 annual report https://afairerworld.org/wp-content/uploads/Annual-Report-2024-financial-statement-1.pdf.

Save the Date, our AGM will be held Tuesday 9th DEC, from 4:30-6:00pm at the Majors Court Room at the Town Hall – nibbles and drinks will be provided.

At A Fairer World, we’re dedicated to building diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Through our various programs, such as the Hobart Human Library and community outreach initiatives, we strive to dismantle barriers and cultivate empathy and understanding among individuals from all walks of life. The stories of resilience and triumph shared within our Hobart Human Library, each story serves as a powerful testament to the strength of the human spirit.

To read more inspiring stories host a Hobart Human Library forum.

But our mission doesn’t stop there. We believe in taking action to create tangible change in our communities. That’s why we’re excited to announce the launch of our Hobart Human Library forum initiative, where schools and workplaces can host their own Human Library events. By bringing together individuals with diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, these forums provide a platform for dialogue and understanding, fostering a culture of empathy and inclusion.
