An exciting new program called Diversity Matters Everyone Matters is being rolled out in primary schools in the Huon Valley and the Just One…program is being delivered at Huonville High School. Both programs are being delivered by the team at A Fairer World and are centred around lived experience storytelling to experience the direct impacts of exclusion and discrimination.
Students will spend Term 2 learning about how stereotyping people can cause harm and can lead to discrimination. Students will also have the opportunity to learn new skills and practise ways to be more inclusive. This could be as simple as respecting the diversity amongst them and smiling and saying hello to someone who seems different to them.
Jodie Epper Educational Leader from A Fairer World is “Very pleased to have the opportunity to work with both primary school and high school students and teachers. Changing school culture to be more accepting of diversity is a complex process and we are very excited to be working across both schools, with students, parents and teachers”
Celebration Events that showcase student work learnt across the two programs will be
• Huonville Primary School Celebration Event Wednesday 17th June
• Huonville High School Celebration Event Tuesday 7th July
The Diversity Matters Everyone Matters program is funded by the Tasmanian Community Fund and the Just One…program is funded by the Department for Education, Children and Young People
